Been looking around to figure out how to fix this, is it possible or just sell for parts? I heard new mobo or get a skilled tech to fix.

    T430
    1368x768
    i5
    180ssd
    8 gig memory

what do you think? I know this is a common issue, scrap it?

How do you know it's an issue with the motherboard? A very dim screen could simply indicate that the backlight has died, which would be a relatively simple and inexpensive fix. One way to isolate whether it's merely a problem with the screen would be to connect an external monitor and see if anything displays there after boot-up.

Yes it connects and powers on a external monitor, how do I fix the backlight issue? When it powers on when you shine a flashlight on the monitor it displays very lightly for a short time.

Is there any software that can test the motherboard?

Yep, everything you've described so far sounds like an isolated display/display backlight issue. Your motherboard is fine.

Simplest fix would probably be a whole LCD panel replacement (a 1-minute search on eBay and I could only find entire LCDs rather than just the backlight), with parts such as these.

Well, I tried two displays already and both are doing the same thing, however neither one was the correct model number (t1) (f1) so I guess I need the EXACT one for it to work. Will return and try again.
