My daughter has a Lenovo 3000 n200 laptop running vista home basic no restore disk was provided, the restore files are on the c: drive.

When starting up it shows the message bootmgr missing press ctrl alt del
When I press ctrl alt del it restarts and gives same message.

I can press F1 and get to BIOS and the boot sequence shows the IDE HD as the first bootable device, unfortunately I cannot access the c: prompt or anything else.

    Please help

You didn't say you had a Vista disc, which is what I asked. They're not the same thing. You're supposed to burn off the recovery discs when you receive the machine. It's why you didn't get any discs. The recovery discs will do you no good anyway. They'll just format the drive and restore the drive to the factory state, which will cause you to loose all the data on the drive. I assume you don't want to lose all the data?

You've got perhaps a couple options. One would be to get a Vista disc and use it to repair the installation. That would be the best option. Second would be to restore the system using the recovery partition. I'm not as familiar with the Lenovo branded notebooks, but on ThinkPads you can hit the ThinkVantage button at boot and it will allow to recover the hard drive to the factory state. I'm not sure if the N200 is the same. I think it's the Lenovo Care button on the N200. Maybe someone else with a Lenovo notebook can speak up.

If you're concerned about the data on the drive you can buy an external case for it and throw the drive in there. Hook it up to another PC and dump the data off that way. They might carry something like that at BestBuy if you're in a hurry. Otherwise they're pretty cheap on the internet.
