    Hi,

I received my x220 (ips panel) a week ago and recently noticed a very small area (6-8 pixels) around an inch from the bottom of the screen near the center where the contrast/brightness is noticeably higher in bright scenes (i.e. light grey, white, or any light pastel type colors). In darker, more saturated backgrounds (deep red, black, purple), the spot isn't visible. I am sure this is not a stuck/dead pixel so maybe its just a defect in the rear led backlight panel? I already tried rubbing the area to no avail.

Anyone else have this problem? took me a while to notice it and now iam totally OCD about it, kinda like just finding a new tiny scratch on your car

Sounds like a warranty errand. Have you tried to contact Lenovo support?

Is it a pressure spot of a LED light bleed? The latter seems pretty common...

is there any way to relieve the pressure myself, like loosening screws? or is it advisable to just send it in? This is my school pc so I cannot lose this for weeks to service at the depot until the end of the semester.

I am having the SAME issue with my new x220. It's a pressure spot, about 4 inches above the bezel at the bottom. It's about 10 pixels, and shaped like an oblong circle. It's not bleeding (I have that too a little bit around the edge of the screen). I can live with that, but this pressure spot is glaring on white/grey backgrounds. On black it is invisible.

I too have depot warranty and can't spare the machine, so I upgraded my warranty and am going to get the screen replaced next day on site, once the warranty kicks in.

Upsetting for a 5 day old 1500$ machine.....

I have just noticed a white spot on my screen as well :(. This is so annoying...how can that happen? I carry the laptop around in a hardcase... Double frustrating is that I don't have onsite warranty and need the machine.

My "white spot" is due to goo from my trackpoint. I'll really have to try cleaning the screen sometime!

I had the same problem with my x220 with the IPS panel. I don't have an on-site warranty, so I arranged to send it in, and they at first tried to claim that I had damaged it and thus it wasn't under warranty. The problem was "escalated", and someone was supposed to call me back in a few days. When this didn't happen, I called them, and found out that the person to whom it had been "escalated" decided in my favor and had already given the go-ahead to fix it. Well and good. That was two weeks ago, though, and it is still languishing in the depot. The unit was sent in on June 6th. The on-line self-serve report has five entries for "waiting for parts" within the past two weeks. I guess these things are selling like hotcakes, and supplies are low. I wonder what the incidence rate is for this sort of thing?

SAME situation here. I had the same white pixels (pixels that were whiter than a white background) on my NEW replacement unit. I sent it in, only to have it sent to "billable hold" for $705. I had to have one person from the depot and one person from billable hold literally fight the sales guy over the phone to decide in my favor to receive a new replacement machine. We had to escalate to managers, managers of managers, supervisors, you NAME IT.

I swear, it's like pulling teeth with Lenovo. I get a new product out of the box, it has issues with it, I send it to them to get it fixed--only to get charged for it?! No way. I'm proud of the two individuals who fought for me to get my replacement laptop, and I pray it has no issues with it, especially with the IPS display. So to add to your statement, I bet this is more prominent than most people think (with the IPS display problems and all).
