    Would any of the T420 T420s T520 be able to run an external TV monitor (1920x1080)?

    (i.e. with NVIDIA card)

    Yes all the latest ThinkPad's can output video at that resolution to an external TV quite easily, even the basic Intel graphics model too. You just need a Displayport to HDMI adapter to be able to achieve that.
