I'm buying this for my father as he needs a machine where he can type, check his email, and just go online. It is 578 dollars and here are the specs.

    Intel® Celeron® M Processor 420 (1.60GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB)[1]
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic[12]
15" XGA TFT LCD with Wireless LAN
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, w/WLAN
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)[8]
    80GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
    DVD-ROM 8x Max Ultrabay Enhanced[5]
    No Bluetooth
    ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ[10]
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
    1 Year Limited Warranty[7]

How does that look? Originally I was going to buy him a dell, but then this deal of EPP and I'd rather pay the same price and get the better quality.

I would advise against that. You can buy a 1 gig stick of ram for $79 a Mushkin.com as opposed to $150 extra for 2 gigs of ram from Lenovo.

I ordered my T60 with 1 stick of ram and as soon as I get i'll buy the other from Mushkin.

I'd get 2 Gigs too if it were for my use, but imo, no reason to get 2 Gigs of ram in this case, considering the way the machine will be used. Esp since its coming w/ Vista Home Basic rather than a version of Vista with Aero, etc. You could always get more ram later if it turned out to be needed.

The R60e has no touchpad if that's an issue.

Actually, the question is quite the opposite. Does he have to have anything quicker than a Celeron M? Which obviously depends on his dad's needs. I don't know about you, but I'd only buy what I need, not want is quickest.

Internet and Office don't need more than a Celeron.

The specs looks good for the purpose of the laptop. The only thing I would recommend is the 1GB of RAM, you could add the 1GB X 1DIMM just for 8.50 USD- You can always upgrade the RAM.
