    Dear Friends,

Its about 3 months of hunt to purchase a right notebook after my toshiba A75 is finally dead. This time I want to be carefull in buying a durable long lasting notebook (atleast 3 years). I heard read reviews on other brands like HP,Dell and Asus etc, but only Lenovo seems great in terms of build and quality.

I got a friend who's helping me purchase under EPP program, so I narrowed down by choices into 2 models

So guys help me choosing the model using it with respective usage of Vista where i would be programming j2EE running servers like weblogic, IIS and occsionally doing some multimedia stuff dvd ripping, recording, editing photos, movies etc.

The difference between the models i could see is
The processor 1.83 gz vs 2.0 gz and the ATI graphics card x1300 Vs X1400 and the price difference in about $250(Which is primary question/doubt whether it is worth of it in long run atleast 1 - 2 years)

Thanks in Advance for every one :)

Just remember... you cannot return anything on EPP if it's opened. They kaboshed 30 day satisfaction guarantee last year. As soon as you open it... it's yours

You can return defective items for a full refund.

Back to the original post... Get the upgraded model. You say you're not going to buy again for 3 years, so spend as much as you can afford now.

Get more ram, either when you order or aftermarket, but get more ram. Java sucks down the memory like nothing else.

Thanks you very much for the over whelming responses. I personally thank every one in this forum for spending their valuable time and sharing their reviews. This is one of the best tech forum I have ever seen.

So finally I want to the suggestion on the cost benefit

    T7200 (2.0 gz 4mb cache)
    120 gb hdd
ATI x1400 128mb (model cost with tax and shipping $1650)

    vs

    T5500 (1.83 gz 2mb cache)
    80 gb hdd
ATI x1300 64 mb (model cost with tax and shipping $1400)

difference is $250 ...is it worth??

please need the suggestion ASAP. placing the order by evening.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, it's definitely worth it for $250. We're talking about components that you can't easily upgrade later on (CPU and video card). You can always pop a new HD in, but I would definitely go with the upgraded config. I would also recommend 2 GB of RAM, but you can add the extra 1 GB later on if you want.
