OK, so i might buy a used A30 thinkpad,

i know for sure i t needs a new battery as the one now holds charge for only about an hour

im going to use the laptop for typing notes in university and email, along with internet research. My campus is mainly wireless, and this laptop has the wireless adapter included.

I was thinking about going on ebay and buying a new battery, but i was wonderingf where do i go to buy mroe ram to max it out, and to replace the cd drive with another battery? how do i go about doing this?

    thanks

    -aaron

I would look for the optical drive on eBay. The battery on ebay or pricegrabber. The memory on older notebooks can sometimes be picky. You can buy from Lenovo ensuring it will work, but that will be pricey. An off brand might work work, but you may have to return. One option is to buy locally where it is easy to return should it not work. Good Luck.

No they are different. The modular battery is shaped like a optical drive so it can fit. Good Luck.

I would ask to make sure it is a ThinkPad battery and not a third party battery. It looked like it was, but one never knows. This is the modular battery:

A30 is a good machine, but T23 would be better for what you do. A30 is a bit heavy and big. It has the best keyboard I've used though, and a better graphics card than T model. But if you are going to use it for just typing and stuff, there is nothing beats it. For a couple hundred more you can find T41 or T42 with lower res screen and lesser of a video card than more expansive options, it will also have a bit better battery life than P3 models. My A30 gets almost 2 hours with everything down but WiFi, T42 gives almost 3 hours, which is a lot more for school.

You can always buy extra memory on the same eBay. I got 512MB for ~50 bux. But, if you will consider all the "upgrades" you'll have to do for an A30, you'll be better off with T model for a bit more to begin with and without any "upgrades". Wish you luck.
