i told him it had flex.. so he said he would send me a new one.
is there anyway to check the part number other than calling back? or will it automatically be the new t400 fixed keyboard..?
-
I just got my keyboard it was the exact same one as my old one... Should i call them back? There's still flex
-
Lol... damn
-
im assuming ur from the states.. what number did u use and whatd u say to them..
because when i called and asked about the flexed keybaord.. they told me to send in my laptop! howd u get them to send u a new keyboard??! -
Before installing, check if the back is solid, with only a few drainage holes, or if it is perforated with many triangular cutouts. The latter is the "new" flexy keyboard.
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it before you receive it, other than call in. Even then, they may not know the exact part number that they sent you. In the worst case, you still got another free keyboard though
-
Both of my new keyboard (Original on T400 and the new one) Has mini triangular cutouts all over the place.
-
-
Should I call them again then?
-
If you want to? But your rep seemed to understand the issue as a defective keyboard. You need the FRU of the non-flexy keyboard so you make sure you get the correct part.
-
lol yea: i called in for recovery disks and then i remembered about the keyboard.
i felt like I could have asked for anything: "so yea, I also need another t400 cus this one is slow";
he asked me what OS I wanted (vista32 bit, actually came with 64)
it was simple, the only questions he asked had to do about name, address, S/N, model.
jaredy, UCSB? -

Are they sending you OS CDs or recovery CDs? If they are OS CDs then I might have to call in. As for the keyboard I do notice some slight flex on the left side but it is only noticeable when I press hard and does not effect typing at all. So i wont be asking for a keyboard anytime soon, but a disc for a clean install would be nice. Especially since I would rather spend my time doing homework then slipstreaming SP1 to a modified dell vista business copy.

anyways, cool. good luck on finals -
If you tell them that it has flex and they said they'll send you a new keyboard, chances are they are going to think that the current one you have is 'defective' and just send you the exact keyboard you are using right now but new. Most the time, if you want the old T60 keyboards with no flex, you'll have to escalate the issue to the supervisor and tell them about it. (Experience, friend and I ended up talking to their supervisor).
-
yup they sent me the one with a lot of big triangle holeS.
i will call again and see what happens (this time with an FRU #) -
Even if you call the support with a FRU # they still send you the crappy one. Personal experience.
I'm going to try and talk to the supervisor when I feel I have an hour to waste. -
I called too and they sent me the one that flexes. I called in today again and ask for the other one specifically again, not sure if I will get it...What's really funny is that the flexy keyboard that I received today came all bent up...
-
maybe if you have the reference number and tell them they already sent you a cheap one and this time you have and FRU
called for t400 keyboard replacement
