    hi folks

my friend has a t41 that was purchased about 3 years ago, brand new.

it has a 40gb hitachi HD with 13.55gb used as IBM's recovery/service partition.

we acquired a 100gb hitachi HD and used the included software to directly clone the existing HD with the correct partitions but have been unable to boot off the newly cloned HD.

any ideas? when the new cloned HD is installed, we are stuck at a blinking cursor w/o any signs of it working to do anything...

help would be much appreciated/ i know ibms are flexible, but that usually depends on the user. :D

I take it you don't have the discs? Are you using rescue and recovery?

thats also another problem, the thinkvantage folder doesnt contain what i need to create the recovery discs, so at this point i dont want to recover it just copy it over exactly as it stands.

As I recall the T41s didn't have the option to burn off the recovery discs. Rescue and recovery should be dowbloadable from Lenovo's site which should allow you make a backup of the old drive and install it on the new one.

problem solved actually. i installed the new drive into the laptop and put the old drive into the external, so when the program asked for the source drive i selected the external and when it asked for destination drive it selected the internal (now the new) drive.

this seemed to work for others so i gave it a try.

as for the recovery discs, are you saying i wont be able to do a recovery disc burns at all? i'd HAVE to keep the partition?
