edit photos and graphic design (photoshop/wacom tablet)

It will also be taken with me to and from college (art school) and on the "field" when I go plan trips for photography (city, wilderness, ext).

Needs to be fast (for photoshop fast, no OC fast), durable and nice matte screen.

I would think a 14" notebook will be more portable than a 15.4" notebook. Plus it will more durable. If you are going to look at a Dell, the D630 makes more sense. Perhaps you should look at the FAQ in the WSIB forum and post there. I got no problems with CS3 on my Core Duo.

ATI has a long history of bad drivers.
I personally like the Thinkpad design.

the DELLs have a cheap look and plastics.

    go with the Thinkpad! ;)

I can have the D630 with all of the spec as my T61 just about and get an estimated ship date of 6-28 if ordered today.

Unless the ship date is completely out in left left field (like Aug. 30 ) don't look at the ship date too hard. Your notebook should last you years, and you'll come to regret it if you go for a worse model only because you'll get it a week or two earlier.

My thinkpad has a est. ship of June 28. I can wait as long as august to get it because I don't need it until school starts.

It's just the bluescreen topics scare me. I wonder If there would be any issues with updated drivers, windows XP, and no turbo memory?

its not that they have bad drivers, its just that nvidia puts ALOT more effort into driver updates than ati. I.E. more frequent updates.

I wouldn't take the estimated shipping dates with a grain of salt, its mostly the maximum amount of time they would take to ship since its "estimated".

I also wouldn't worry about the blue screens either, formatting seems like it fixes it so it's probably something Lenovo messed up on when they preloaded the OS.

A D630 is a good alternative though, but I'd rather have a Thinkpad.

notwithstanding your observation about the driver updates, over at thinkpads.com, you'll see a long thread with contributions from engineers explaining in detail why the nvidia graphics card is a horrendous turn for the thinkpad

The more educated you become about the T61, the more you realize how atrocious the T61 really is. POS. Sigh.

I've been criticizing SkiBunny since day one for her unsubstantiated opinions, and she has never responded. Honestly, if she simply justified her opinions, I would shut up and stop labelling her comments "trollish." Otherwise, wild assumptions have no place on forums other than to illicit arguments.
