I have read that this happens on other models but is anyone having this problem on their x220?
Basically the laptop would not startup with a swipe and when you enter the login screen it says that the fingerprint device cannot be detected even when the fingerprint sensor LED is lit up.

    Any solutions?

maybe you can check in the bios settings, if the fingerprint device is enabled.

Or you can try reinstalling the driver

even the bios says fingerprint reader not detected.

I can say that reinstalling drivers do not work.

I shut down the computer, removed the battery and power supply for 1 min and now its working again.

This has happened for 4 times already

Is your fingerprint reader listed in the device management. If not, I think, it's probably due to bad or loose connection, because sometimes its working sometimes not.

I can confirm that it has nothing to do with a bad or loose connection because taking the battery out and putting it back always solves the problem. No amount of tapping or shaking will activate the fingerprint sensor.
