Hi, I just received my first ThinkPad (T410s) a few weeks ago (I love it), but I've noticed the left mouse button on the trackpoint is very clacky. If I push down on it hard (normal force), it makes a loud "click" noise. If i push down very lightly, it still does the left click in Windows, but doesn't make a sound. The right mouse button and the lower buttons don't make such a sound.

I've taken the keyboard off, but I'm too new to mucking around laptops to know what's wrong. Or is it supposed to be that way?

you should call lenovo and ask them to send you a new keyboard, the loud clicking it probably the key mechanism is not fitting the key properly.

lead_org: Would the keyboard + shipping be covered by the warranty? Also, do you think this problem will likely degrade into a far larger issue (currently it appears not to affect the performance of the button)?

I have the same problem but on my bottom left mouse button. It doesn't bother me much since it only happens when I hit it at the very leftmost part.

yes the next day express courier is covered within the warranty, but you should call up Lenovo warranty first.

I had similar issue in my T400s before, and it end up just stuck, i had to change the keyboard because of it.

It won't affect the performance until the mechanism under the button some how fully fails.

Thanks for the advice. However, I may be oblivious, but I just can't find the number for calling Lenovo about replacing parts. Is it the post-sales inquiry number?

Also, I noticed that the left side of the left trackpoint button is angled up slightly. When I took off the keyboard (I didn't look very thoroughly; I can't figure out how to disconnect the connector), I saw a definite gap of about 1mm between the plastic and the metal under the button. On the underside of the keyboard are these plastic rivet-like things, and the one under the button looked like it was melted slightly.
