I did a clean XP install along the lines of the guide (though maybe it was too "clean" and I skipped something important).

But now my mouse cursor randomly changes to a permanent hourglass. Just recently it even changed to a random picture the size of the login icon (see photo, I couldn't take a screenshot).

I have the chipset, the UltraNav and the latest graphics drivers installed (along with others) - what others could I be missing that cause this to happen?

Considering many people have succeeded with the Clean install, it's probably your computer's hardware issue.
    you can call Lenovo....

Of you think you skipped something, you should attempt the clean install again.

In your device manager, are there any unknown devices? Also does any device have an exclamation mark next to it?

ThinkPads are one of the easiest to format and clean install because Lenovo has all the drivers/programs on their website.

Calling Lenovo is tough as I bought the computer in another country.

I'd also like to avoid another install if I can.

In the device manager I see 6 devices with exclamation marks under "Other devices":
    Base System Device * 3
    Ethernet Controller
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    Unknown device

Is there a way to figure out which drivers I'm missing? I skipped e.g. Ethernet and Bluetooth as I don't use them. I can install them but I doubt that will help my mouse cursor problems as that is either the mouse or the video driver and I have both the UltraNav driver and the NVidia drivers installed :(

Yep, pretty much most of the companies have the drivers/programs on their website...

Actually I haven't even installed drivers for the mouse as they are bloatware. I have Logitech VX Revolution. But I'll try that now.
