I've created a bootable xp cd using this: http://www.howtohaven.com/system/createwindowssetupdisk.shtml but it restarts before it can get to the window startup screen. I've assumed that the I386 folder is XP Pro SP2 as that is what was installed. I tried to slipstream sp2 into the folder but it wouldn't saying it couldn't over-write. A couple of options also changed in imgburn - but they were messages that recognized that I was burning an OS due to the i386 folder and the suggestions looked confident and I trust that program anyway...

So can someone please tell me if i should perhaps try something? I'm thinking I should try it as SP1 or non-SP and also without making the change in img burn.

Also, i've set the SATA setting to compatible in BIOS just to be sure... So I'm really frustrated at this point :(

    Any help would be appreciated.

On a side note: questionable XP version works fine... so it has to be the way I made the CD or the CD contents themself...

Also, is it possible to tell which XP version we get from the i386 folder?

If by any chance your CPU is a dual core CPU, then I have a solution for your problem. You need to install a hotfix in safe mode in Windows so that you can start XP. The hotfix is KB896256. Check out the clean install XP thread for the hotfixes. Install it in safe mode and you will be fine. Thats what I did anyways and it fired up without any issues.
