Here's what I found through google.

    "
Are you running Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, or similar programs? - they are known to cause the 0xC004F063 error message (at least in Vista). Uninstalling them usually cures the problem.

If not, then you should be able to get around the problem by changing the Product Key to the on on your COA sticker -
Go to the System Properties page, and at the bottom, follow the link to Change Product Key.
You will need to activate by phone.
Alternate steps to change the product key

    1) Click the Start button

    2) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key

    3) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer

    4) Click the Next button.

    5) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok

    6) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 7)

    7) Click the Start button

    8) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key

    9) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button

    10) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone

NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice. If the Automated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep., select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. This should force the Automated Voice to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. Trying to Activate thru the Automated Voice will not work, in your case; only thru the Live Activation Rep. will your Activation be successful."

    thanks!

    okay i ahve a question

i entered the product key i obtained from the abr program (which did not work) so i instead entered the product key under the battery (which did KNOCK ON WOOD, work)

i dont understand why the abr program would generate a false key that would temporarily work

I think the temprorariness of it was just due to windows genuine checker not actually checking until when things went wrong. I have had delayed wrong key issues on a vista PC of mine.

Other than that I am not sure sorry :(

Run the genuine windows product check again to make sure the new key you have entered works. You may get the same problem in which case you must do the phone activation thing with MS :(

ABR does not 'generate' any key - it simply uses the key from your existing OEM installation, and stores it in a file.

When you restore (using ABR), this SAME key is used to activate your Windows installation.

Just wanted to clarify the doubters of this amazingly useful program.

I think holly knew that but was baffled by why it would have differed from the key under his/her keyboard. I too am confused.

The key under the keyboard (or on the COA sticker, wherever) IS different from the manufacturer-specific OEM activation key. It is never the same. Both are supposed to work, but activating using the COA key may require you to call Microsoft to activate. Activation using the OEM activation key can be done entirely offline and is what ABR does.
