I am trying to install win 7 off a usb drive, BIOS detects my new ssd, but windows does not ... I also tried pre-loading the AHCI drivers (old school), and it still does not detect it, is there something else I need to do?

I tried AHCI mode and Compatibility, still not seeing it in my install. This is with the M4 128gb SSD.

Which mode are you trying to install Windows in? If its UEFI mode I would suggest using the DVD method as people encountered problems trying to install UEFI based Windows using USB media.

Leave it at both, prioritise the boot option to have USB media first. I don't know if you have a dock with a DVD drive but if you haven't then I would recreate the bootable Windows USB media just to make sure.

If you haven't got an image of the Windows disc on hand then download the ISO images from this thread and then recreate the USB media using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and see how it goes. I come across some Windows USB media that refuse to work on some systems so they have to be reconstructed with the tool for it to work.

That is how I created it after it didn't work the first time with my msdn/technet ISO.

I don't understand why the OS install does not see the drive ...
