I had my T61p for about 3 months now and had this problem occur twice during that time. I had left my comp idle for several hours and when I came back it would not respond even though it was still running. I tried moving the mouse and pressing the keypads but nothing seemed to work. I had to to press on/off button to get my comp running again. what is going on? any ideas?

    thanks...

Did you try to use the FN key to bring it out of sleep?

Nope, just the Fn key only, it should bring your system out of sleep state.

As for problems later, I doubt it. It's basically just a system restart. Unless you get an error or BSOD, then you should be fine. Besides, three months with only this happening twice isn't bad at all.

Another solution could also be to make sure you allowed your mouse and keyboard to bring you out of standby. I forget where this setting is but I think it's in device manager.

    Good luck! :)

It's more than just a system restart. Without an orderly dismount, the system disks dirty bits are set. Defragmenters will not run in boot mode until check disk is run against the disk. Vista does not have a checkdisk that will run on a reboot. You have to boot the DVD and run chkdsk from the DVD.

It may not look as if it has consequences, but it does.

Uhh actually, this may be much more serious and different than anyone thinks. I have been having similar problems with my 1 year old T60. Usually it stops responding when I am playing video games or when I am trying to put it into sleep mode, but I believe your computer and my computer could have the same problem.

After a month or so of looking and talking to people on this site, someone suggested that it may be my computer overheating, I downloaded Speed Fan to check my computer's temperature and it turns out that person was right! Basically you want to keep your notebook cool, so my remedy for this problem was to buy a notebook cooler and it rarely happens now and it keeps my notebook much cooler than it was before...

I highly suggest you look into that.
