Hello. I have recently bought a x61s laptop with Bluetooth. I love the laptop, and haven't had any of the problems that some new onwers have had -- it is running XP and works like a charm. I know how to turn on the bluetooth radio. I have figured out what My Bluetooth places is/are, and I have successfully transferred a *.vcf file to my Palm T|X. It detects my T|X and vice versa. The only thing I can reliably transfer is an "OBEX Object push", though. Whenever I try a hot-sync, it says "the port is in use by another application". I have "created the virtual serial port" as instructed by the palm software (Com5 and Com6), and I have looked for "services" as indicated on the laptop -- the only thing it says is "No services Found for" my Palm. When I use the hot sync mgr on the laptop, it is set to com5, as I want it to be, although there IS no COM1 anymore, isn't that odd? Anyway, can someone help me here? Am I in the right forum? I have done a search for other bluetooth devices, and my laptop can "see" them but it doesn't communicate. The only thing ever transferred is that *.vcf file to my T|X...

    Thanks
    :(

From what I have read, Microsoft nerfed Bluetooth in Vista and made it only functional for HID (human interface) devices (mice, keyboards, etc). There is another function or two, but many of the services are not available. I want to tether my BlackBerry instead of using my USB cable, but the only way to do it (apparently) is remove the MS stuff and go to Widcomm drivers. Do a search on the forum or google, there's some doco out there.

My Blackberry 8830 can be used via Bluetooth for WWAN connectivity pretty painless. I would imagine the Palm setup is similar -- I just setup a dialup connection and the number I believe I use is 999. If you google Palm with your provider I bet you'll find a solution. My 8830 runs amazing via bluetooth.

    Ay yay yay.
I have XP, not Vista. Can't imagine I should have to dump microsoft files in order to use bluetooth on Palm -- really?

Well Bluetooth, and Microsoft are often at odds. The profiles for your device might be available from another manufacturer that uses the same radio (i.e. Samsung, Toshiba, etc.) I have heard others having luck with those drivers that have the device profiles you need.

Sorry to be so new at this, but why would I be able to exchange an electronic biz card but not anything else between the x61s and the Palm device? That's what has me crazy. They do see each other, but will not sync. I had a similar problem trying to synch my x61s with a Bluetooth-equipped x23. Same problem. They see each other but won't dance....

BTW, I think it is a Broadcom wireless adapter with Bluetooth 2.0 and EDR technology, whatever that means. And the hot-synch always stops with the message that the serial port "is in use by another application". What is that about?

I use bluetooth to tether my treo (palm) to my notebook for utilizing the internet while on the road through a software called PDAnet. Works without problems. Sometimes when my connection drops. I have to shut down and restart the PDAnet program for it to connect via BT again. Those are the only issues i have seen. I tried doing a bluetooth hotsync and it didnt work out, so I just left it alone and didn't look into it further

Renee I've used that on my DELL, but I have NOT (cross my fingers) had to do it with my T61 -- I would imagine it works fine though. For those a little worried if the guide Renee outlined works -- I can say for a certainty it works with the DELL E-1505/6400 with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR module. The profiles were all there after the hack was done. Only missing stereo headphone support, but I didn't need it.

This very good news. The bluetooth gps is due to arrive today. This one is a basic one for data and it will be me who is going to have to write the software to do the data acquisition. I'm looking forward to it.

I am not sure if you will need to do the work outlined on the site you listed. I suspect that it should pair okay with the thinkpad.

The good news, phil is that you were right. The bad news is that......

    1.) It's not a Vax
    2.) It's not VMS
3.) It's the Windows Implimention of COM ports
    4.) PC UART behavior

But I can open and read the bluetoorth com ports
