when i'm typing, suddenly my cursor moves to some other place on the screen, and the last few words that i'd written come up somewhere in the middle of the paragraph... also sometimes the message gets sent on its own while chatting, and then ive to write the whole thing again..

I had the same things happen. It drove me crazy and I wondered why. I traced it down to the touch pad. My thumb was accidentally hitting the touch pad ever so slightly as I was typing and was placing the cursor in weird places and my sentences were all split. You might be doing the same. If you are using an external mouse, see if you can turn off the touchpad.
