It's felt like MS hasn't been able to achieve much for years (apart from a solid Windows 7) so it's good to see this.

We'll really know that they're succeeding when they make users, like me, buy Windows phones rather than iPhones :) --- and one of the reasons will be that the Windows phone experience will be similar to the laptop and desktop experiences...

    Just FYI.

I have Windows 8 Developer Preview installed on my X220 and I haven't found a single device or driver issue! Everything is stable and there has not been a single error/crash. It's taking < 31GB of disk space...

Even the fingerprint reader works (using the built-in Windows 8 Biometric feature in Control Panel).

I haven't made it my primary operating system yet but probably will when the beta is released next month.

Just a hint to lenovo: make screen more stable please with some kind of lock mechanism. You see how the presenter tabbing on the screen and the screen rocks back and forth. Solve that.

Even the middle-button scroll? For me, it scrolls too slow or too fast in Metro-style apps and doesn't work at all in the Visual Studio text editor.

Yes, you're right. It is WAY too fast unless you are very careful; hopefully, that will be fixed.

I was commenting more on the fact that the X220 hardware and its drivers seem to be ready for Win 8.

Seems so. Intel seems to use Thinkpads for validation and demos too.

Uh, that's like impossible to solve. Even heavy LCD desktop screens move when you touch them. Unless you anchor the notebook down to a rigid surface with major lid support or something, then it might be possible, but would create rather a bulky product.

you can get lock mechanism for such machines, but i guess Lenovo probably won't do it due to:

    -added cost and complexity
-added weight (probably won't be a lot, but in ultrabook category every gram counts).
-depending on the design of the lock mechanism it can also produce other problems in relation to reliability.
