is there any difference quality-wise between the 2 batteries. they're both 6-cell, both for x200.
if it's any help, the sanyo one says "parts made in japan, assembled in china", the lg one says "made in china"

Sanyo and Sony are the battery makers that does the battery for all the laptop companies, and they are having recalls and recalls time after time... from the bad Ipod mini battery to the Dell hot batteries... i am not sure whether the thinkpad battery catching on fire was also made by them (i suspect it is)....

The only battery that has been relatively problem free are the Panasonic one. Not sure how good the LG ones are, but from my experience with their mobile phones, they are pretty bad (cells were made in Japan), but this may have improved in their laptop batteries.

Now lot of recall lists, no longer lists the manufacturers by their names, obviously it is bad for their share prices. But the recent recall after 2006, definitely does have Sanyo batteries, even though the manufacturers are not mentioned by their name, just a FRU number.

The current recall by Lenovo are mostly Sony batteries, maybe Sanyo is also included i don't know. One of my Sanyo batteries was exchanged last year.

    yeah that would make sense.

was the reason for exchange something unusual? and which brand was the replacement?

They're both decent enough. It's also somewhat immaterial as you can't request a preferred battery manufacturer when ordering a ThinkPad.

battery error after 80 charge cycles, i also have 8 cells in a X60 replaced (Sony cells) yesterday in the recent recall. I have been burnt by Sanyo batteries so many times, i don't know whether i am just shy or having a mental breakdown when their name is mentioned.

Panasonic has served me well, and i have yet to hear they have a recall.

Sanyo went bad and they sent me Sanyo again (because Sanyo put some money towards the replacement), Sony went this time and got back Sony again (because Sony probably paid for the replacement or given the cells to the manufacturers for the replacement).

i guess i'll be more careful when i come across sanyo ones in the future. how about for day-to-day use: do you find one brand to consistently be better than others, or everyone is about the same?

Day to day to use i can't really tell the difference, but Panasonic cells does last a long time, where as Sony and Sanyo cells are varied in quality, most of them that i have in the T4x have only lasts around 1 hour at best. While one Panasonic cell version can still hold 3 hours of charge. Similar usage patterns.
