    See this thread:

The link answers quite a bit about the differences between the two. The overall theme, however, is that the W500 offers a different graphics that's optimized for professional graphics software and you have the option of a higher resolution like 1900x1200 screen. It's the new T-Series' equivalent of what the T61p was for the T61.

The T500 is better suited for gaming and all of the other "regular" stuff you would probably be doing, such as, web-surfing, word processing, etc. Also, there were overtones that the T500 offered better battery life, although I'm not sure if there is any fact to back that claim. Anyway, read through the thread that's linked. There's some really good information in there.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like Rikimusha beat me to it. We had the same idea.

The W500 is better for engineering applications but you may or may not ever use engineering applications on your laptop. I am a junior mechanical engineer and I have a W500 and use CAD software extensively but most engineering students stick to the computer labs.

I have yet to see claims of T500 being better than W500 in gaming and in battery life. Considering the W500's GPU to be based on the T500's, I doubt there would be any difference except in certain programs and the option for the WUXGA screen. What engineering are you? I graduated from electrical engineering and used a lot of software on my own computer.

Point of fact. The W500 started out as a better value than the T500 because of the included stock equipment. Lenovo has adjusted the pricing on the T500 to be cheaper in many cases. The upgrades are still cheaper for the W500 though. It's possible that a W500 could end up cheaper. Do yourself a favor and configure both at the same time ot compare the bottom line.

Still, unless you need the OpenGl graphics or it winds up cheaper, there isn't much of a point to buy the W500 over the T. As much as I love my W :)
