Does anyone know how to entirely disable fingerprint reader?

I just played with it for the past hour and because my fingers are small, I often have a hard time getting it to read. It keeps telling me skewed/too fast/bad quality/too short messages.

I would rather see the Windows XP Pro login screen right away than hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del.

    Any ideas?

    You could uninstall the software.

It would be hard enable it back again if I ever did want to use it again.

    Just re-install the software.

just go into the device manager and disable it.
right click my computer --> properties --> hardware --> device manager --> 'biometric' --> touchchip fingerprint coprocessor

you also can (or maybe you need to) go into the IBM software. Whatever the big 'access ibm' button is on the t60. Go into security, settings, and uncheck 'replace windows logon screen with fingerprint' or whatever it is with the new software.

I disabled the fingerprint coprocessor and disabled embedded security chip.

I couldn't find 'Replace Windows Logon screen' option anywhere on ThinkVantage fingerprint security.

When my T60 hibernates, the normal windows prompt shows but I am still forced to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del in order to log back in.

Secondly, on startup, I get a prompt message that embedded security is disabled which I already know I have. No idea how to get that message from displaying. After OK, I get the same Windows box that says to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the typical xp pro login screen.

Heh, I think it's really annoying to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del in order get to the login screen.

I read how-to's on Lenovo's site but it seems that they apply for older models.

Uh, just go into the control panel and "change the way users log on" or whatever the option is and set it back to the welcome screen. You can even do that with the fingerprint reader enabled. In fact, that's how I have mine set up. (not really because I mind hitting control-alt-delete to use a password; I was just messing with things after I reinstalled and set it that way to test something and never changed it back)

There's no need to disable the security chip or the fingerprint reader or the fingerprint software. If the fingerprint software is enabled, the only difference is that you'll see the message about "swipe your finger to log on" or whatever it is at the welcome screen.

BTW, the problem isn't the size of your fingers. My g/f has tiny fingers and can used the fingerprint reader on her T42 or 43 or whatever it was she had from work just fine. The necessary technique is odd.
