I bought the t420 back in april as just T420, but after running Lenovo Support - Download Drivers and Software (US) Auto Detect, it detected my laptop as T420 i, what difference does it make?![]()

T420i uses the i3 processor. Also it will say T420i on the LCD bezel instead of T420.

The T420i is the base model of the T420 series. Apart from that everything from the chassis to the drivers are exactly the same to that of the standard T420 model so I wouldn't worry about it.

I was surprised when my core i5 T420 (a custom order) also showed up on the auto-detect as a T420i. In fact I had to double check I did have an i5 CPU!
So basically I'd ignore it. -
I have a T420i with an i5-2410m (the only i5 offered as an upgrade from the base T420i CPU, an i3). My bezel says "T420".
do i have t420 or t420i?
