do lenovo laptops come with international (worldwide) warranty?

im interested in the t61p but i live in europe and will buy my laptop from america, hence the topic question.

I'm ordering from the US, but I'll be using it in Vietnam.

 

My advice is to pickup the phone tomorrow and call Lenovo. I am almost certain not every Lenovo comes with "worldwide" warrenty.

 

No, not all systems come with internat'l warranty. You've got to realize that not all models are available in all countries, which means that not all models can be supported everywhere.

Interestingly I have the same plans.
If you browse through the American IBM website and customize a notebook, i. e. a T61p, you will get the part number 6459CTO.
If you go to this website

and enter the first four numbers (6459) you will see that you will only have warranty in a dozen countries. By the way

Vietnam is one of these countries.

If you buy a notebook in Germany with the part numbers 6457, 6458, 6460 you will get an international warranty.

I talked on the phone with a German IBM dealer and he said that though the warranty for notebooks bought in the US is limited to the US only he had no problems with getting them repaired in Germany while the warranty was still active.

But you can actually upgrade the American 1-year warranty to a 3-year international warranty in Germany for 149 EUR (depot) or 179 EUR (onsite).

Another possibilty would be to buy a notebook in the US with international warranty, but I don't know how to do that. Does anybody know? I can't find a link or an option on the IBM website.

I would be glad if somebody could provide me with a link.

The laptops bought in the U.S. do come with INT warr, but Lenovo has limited it down considerably. T4X used to cover a lot of EU, but now its mostly Asia and South America with some EU. What country are you in? I will look it up for you using a U.S. T61P machine.

 

Even not in China, where they are building it and ship it.

Optomos, what T61p type did you lookup. I tried the same thing with a 14.1 SXGA+ version and did not get many of the countries listed.

 

I believe it was a 7658cto, but that list is not that long. There are actually 2 lists there; one for the T61P and the other for the T4X which is the longest list.

Yeah, that's what I discovered. Basically no international warranty for a T61p bought on the Lenovo website.
But how can you buy a T61p with full international warranty? I mean some Americans will travel with their T61p to, say, Europe. What happens when the notebook stops working there? There must be a way to buy a T61p with international warranty?!?

CTO=Configure/d To Order should not have any part in INT warranty since many people get CTO's, but I will check on one that is not a CTO and see if there is a difference.
