i just ordered an sl510, and am wondering if i did the right thing.

    Intel Core 2 Duo T6570 (2.1 Ghz 800MHz
    Win 7 Home Premium 64
    15.6 vibrant view (didn't offer non-glare)
    3 GB mem
320 GB Hard drive 7200 rpm

now,i'm a real computer greenhorn, but my old dell is dying a slow death, and i wanted to get a solid, well built, within this century replacement laptop. i do a lot of research, photos, movies, etc. but nothing very extreme, and it won't be travelling an awful lot. i want my new computer to last for a while, and i paid $720 Cdn (thank goodness for those lenovo coupons!), and that's about the limit for me.

i cannot seem to find many user reviews at all! i had seen this computer at a costco in the states, and it seemed to be solidly built w/a nice rubberized exterior, and an anti-glare screen. well, anti-glare wasn't an option when i customized this one, but they said the vibrant view was not much different....anyways, i'm rambling.....

i keep reading this forum and getting the idea that the sl series are really looked down upon. well, i can't afford the t-series, even w/coupons, the canadian prices are astronomical! i just want to hear frompeople that have used and sl510, and get some honest feedback, so i will know whether to keep my order or cancel, and get.....what? SO! any non purists out there that can give me some info? will be much appreciated! or at least point me to where some honest reviews are, cuz i can't find them.
    thanks!

oh, and p.s.; since the bloody thing is gonna be 16 business days, if anyone can recommend something of equal or better quality that i can pick up here in beautiful B.C.,please don't hesitate to inform me! i'd kill to have a backlit keyboard, but can't afford a dell studio 15, or a macpro.

sorry for the rambling, but i hope i can get some answers.
    muchos gras

From my limited time with it at Fry's Electronics, I felt that the SL510 was quite solid, if not as well-built as the T-series. Very little or no flex pretty much everywhere, although it is quite bulky. The way the edges are designed, though, helps hide its thickness.

Have you seen the SL510 review on this site?

They are fine computers. Just don't expect the standards of a thinkpad that we hold. If you treat it well and aren't constantly on the move, then it will just be fine. Did you upgrade the warranty? Support is a big factor of why we like thinkpads as well.

yers, i did read the review; i just didn't find too many actual normal user reviews, but it's quite possible i'mnot sure where to look.

as far as the warranty goes; i just went w/what came w/it; i believe a one year dealie. think it's a good idea? reckon i could phone and upgrade if i had to. i was quite impressed when i did phone, that i actually spoke to a real person w/in a few minutes.....

any other thoughts? you've got me feeling better about my purchase anyways!!

Personally, I always choose to gamble that a computer's major problems usually occur either in the first few weeks/months of using it or towards the end of its useful lifespan, so I stick with the standard warranties.

In the end, it's your own satisfaction with your laptop that counts, so don't worry until you actually have it in your hands and have used it for a while

Does your credit card add a year of warranty? I would upgrade with lenovo to 2-3 years of warranty. You can do it before the warranty ends, but you cannot upgrade to accidental protection after 30 days I think.

Just because a laptop is well built/designed doesn't mean things cant go wrong. The nature of a laptop and all...

I played with it@work for few hours while installing updates.
Seemed odd that keyboard had decent amount of flex on the left side. Design wise nice.
Unless you really need machine as a desktop replacement, perhaps you should opt for something bit smaller, if you intend to carry it around, because 15.6 is in my opinion huge, at least for me.
