It should, depending on your configuration due to the Haswell. If you go with something like the 3k screen that is being offered, you will probably get less than the T530 since the screen is suppose to be power hungry. I don't think the T540p will be significantly better though

Hi and thanks for your reply. Is there optimus technology on the t540 with the gt 730m? Would battery life be shortened by it? Also, what is the intel hd graphics version of the t540? Anyone have a complete spec sheet of the t540?

All recent (2010+) Thinkpads come with optimus.

In fact, i will list you the laptops with Nvidia cards that *don't* come with optimus:

    - Alienware 18 SLI
    - Lenovo Y510p SLI edition (however with a single GPU it comes with optimus)
    - Clevo P570WM
    - Clevo P370WM

Also to be included in that list are Dell and HP workstations with 10-bit displays (DreamColor, etc.)

You can alternatively google the intel chip model name and the first result will be the chip on Intel's site. Intel gives a lot more information about their chips than Lenovo, which would help you make an informed decision.

Personally for the 4th generation Haswell, I'm looking for chips with the Intel HD 4600 which more powerful than the HD 4400. Chips with the letter M at the end have the HD 4600, while those with the letter U have the 4400.

    Example:

    i3-4000M, HD 4600
    ARK | Intel® Core

    i5-4200M, HD 4600
    ARK | Intel® Core

    i5-4200U, HD 4400
    ARK | Intel® Core

Hello, I have the same dilema. I am about to choose between T540 or T530. T540 is the new one, with a little bit slimmer case, cleaned up appearance and numeric keyboard. The main difference is the Hasewell processor, but as I know 3rd and 4rd generaton processors do not have significant differences. 4rd gen i5 is 6% faster than 3rd gen i5. 6% is too little but the price of t530 and t540 is absolutely the same. The video is intel hd4600 instead of hd 4000 and is about 2 times faster in some cases. I've read that Hasewell processors work at higher temperatures and are a little bit hotter. I am still thinking which one to choose. Seems that T530 is going to be the last IBM ThinkPad-like computer, with the classic rough design (I like it more than the new T540). I will probably take the T530, because T540 looks to much like IdeaPad style, and since it is going to be my workhorse I prefer the uglier classic T530 than the stylish T540.

I'm with you. I prefer the T530 styling, but it's hard to pass up some of the advances on the T540p. Wireless AC, 3K display, Gobi 5000, HD4600, are all very nice additions. But there are also significant trade-offs as well. No trackpoint buttons, new docking station, new ultrabay adapter, new AC adapters. I ended up buying a W530 as the T530 no longer provides much in the way of configuration options, so I went to the W series to get the quad-core i7 and other stuff I wanted. But the T540p keeps me second guessing my decision.

I would be surprised if the battery life wasn't better, that's the whole point of haswell I thought, but it may be on the order of 1-3 hours more so instead of 4-5 hours you get 6-8 hours. Obviously depends on how you run it and usage scenarios...
