    i'm planning to get a W520 with 500GB disk then upgrade it to Crucial M4 SSD , so i was wondering i can use the spare 500GB that i'll have on my previous W500 ?

    Most likely yes assuming the drive is a 2.5" 9.5mm SATA notebook hard drive.

    Yep, both use standard 2.5" SATA drives.
