I recently clean installed vista, then downloaded drivesr from the ibm website in random order and stuff. then this guy comes up with a vista clean install guide with what seems like a particular order in which to install the drivers. should i clean install vista again using the right order or will it not make a big difference?

I have never stayed to a specific order of drivers, besides doing the first needed hardware drivers first. For example, video card and network adapter drivers go on first, since pulling in other drivers without those is somewhat difficult :)

In general, it shouldn't matter, but its probably wisest the install the chipset drivers first since that's the lowest level of hardware that runs with drivers you can install.

It does matter with some drivers - but then it would normally say so (e.g. in readme) that before installing driver X you should install driver Y etc.

Chipset drivers should go in first, at least if they're from Intel. My guess is that other manufacturers would say likewise.

hey miliu, I've noticed you're still having problems. I can't really answer your specific question from above, but if you still have the recovery partition or discs someone posted a way to choose what you want and don't want on your computer when you do a recovery using the partition. You probably wouldn't have any problems with the drivers if you do it this way.

Oh, and if you do it this way I'm sure you could call technical support and mention this "base software administrator" and have them help you since it's their program.
