    According to the news
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3019
lenovo will "end partnership with Quanta". Since Quanta makes the Z series, and Z series is also not selling too well, will lenovo stop making Z series soon.
because I would not want to buy a soon to be obsolete model

That is too bad. I really liked the Z61m, but the business class people are a conservative group. Change is bad I guess.

You still have Lenovo standing behind it irregardless of whether it is discontinued.

Very true. I used to work for GM and last time I checked they were still using Windows 2000 instead of XP. Change is scary for corporate IT folks. The Z is just ahead of its time. Other business level notebooks are going widescreen now. I have no qualms about having a z60t on order. It is still the thinkpad that best fits my needs.

Hmmm... With that news, maybe I should push thru with T60... anyone knows the ODM of the T series, especially the T60?
I think, with regards to widescreen, other brands (like hp business class notebooks) has more to offer but less pricey.

GM has 10s of 1,000s of machines. It is almost a living organism. If something goes wrong the problem just multiplies itself. Corporate IT likes to test things thoroughly before they implement them. It is why you will see very few corporations implement Vista when it is released other than Microsoft of course.

My take on this article is a little different.
It says Lenovo will stop having Quanta build its Z-series laptops...this doesn't necessarily mean they can't find another maker to continue building them like Compal or Wistron. And according to Lenovo, it is just a rumor >> http://www.laptoplogic.com/news/detail.php?id=1069. "We have not made any announcements regarding our suppliers and do not respond to rumors." So lets hope for the best. I really like the widescreen format and really have a hard time believing that Lenovo would kill this line of Thinkpads. As widescreens continue to become more popular, Lenovo must have something in the works to compete with other widescreen business laptops...

I was at my local Office Depot the other day and I noticed that the once prominent Thinkpad display had been removed and the only Thinkpad that was mixed in with the other notebooks was the T43. The Z60 was no longer on display.

I agree with bman. I took the article to mean they had a falling out with quanta.

OD is missing the z60 because they blew them out last week very cheaply. My guess was to make room for z61's. Could be wrong though.

I doubt the Z will be discontinued as wide screen notebooks are kinda standard in every brand's lineup.

Maybe what the article is trying to say is that Lenovo doesn't need too many assembly lines because the demand for the Z is not so strong.

The reason I think the Z series aren't that popular with corporate users is because of its less effective at using excel and it's aspect ratios are different when connecting it to a projector. My mom's workplace is an accounting firm and they dislike widescreen because rows matter more than columns. I know it's a really small thing to be picky about but 1050 on a 4/3 does look better than 16/10.

I think the Z is placed right between the T and R, bith in terms of price and quality. So its a great option and discontinuing it would be some what of a short sightedness.

In any case, I think Lenovo's own line of PCs are doing much worse than the Z-Series. No body buys em.. at least I am yet to see one.
