at my apartment :) Just bought another 3 of them, all the same. Had I not forgotten to put my bid on the fourth one, I would have won it too, lol.

    14" wide screen, standard res.
    T7300
    2GB RAM
    Intel GPU
    100GB HDD
    WiFi - G
    DVD-RW
    4-cell panasonic
    90W
    XP Pro

about two months ago I bough another 2 of pretty much the same type, which I gave away to my parents :)

still cant compare to my beloved one in my sig, but for the price of 200 to 225 I'm not even trying to complain :D

We send them to our manufacturing plants and use them out on the plant floor for connecting to CNC machines and such. Used to send out T42/T43 units still we no longer had any to upgrade in any office environment. Almost done upgrading the T60/T61 units now.

I picked up three more T61s for $30 a pop over the summer. Two in working condition (one with a cracked screen), one with a bad DIMM slot. All 15", 1680x1050, NVS140M, T7300, 2GB RAM. Great for parts.

No battery, charger, hard drive, or OS, but not bad.

I'm there with you. My fiancee complains that I have too many computers sometimes, but she stopped when I brought home an Intel iMac for her :p.

Thank goodness the future missus is a bit of a nerd as well!

Hehe. Well I'm still planning on getting a refurb'd T60 some time. Where did you get your T61's from?

    I'm envious. :p

I know of a company that leases laptops. So after the lease expires, the company that has leased the laptops from those guys would return the leased units. Now since the client company would normally lease more laptops that they even would need (just in case if more employees come to work I guess), some of the units end up back to the leasing company hardly ever used, and they would sell those to the public. If I find such units in pristine shape, I usually buy those, and later either give to close friends, or resell with small profit.

this time I found four, but I wasn't quick enough and bought 3 as somebody else got the 4th one. Those laptops are in such a good shape that even the stickers for energy efficient unit still remains on the back of the display :) All batteries have low cycles and would still fully recharge :D

on the side note, I only get units with XP, as W7/Vista would require more hardware to run fine. If for some reason I get some of those left at home, I'm planning to make me a server that would run non-stop :)

    I should post pictures later

I'm still using my T61 as my everyday desktop replacement computer. It's been on everyday for 5-6 hours a day since I bought it new in early 2008. So, my T61 is staying on my desk until it breaks :) :)

I love the T61s, they're such great computers. Reliable, well-built, and decently powerful. I picked up my first when it had a few months of warranty left, and I extended it for another year w/ TPP (300 days left). It's been running smoothly doing data collection and number crunching in my lab. The motherboard was replaced a few months ago, so it no longer has a defective GPU (the NVIDIA NVS 140M).

I'd like to upgrade the processor to a T9300, but I don't want to void my warranty.

If you want, you could always buy the processor now, and wait until the warranty expires to upgrade it I suppose. :)

speaking of defective GPUs, mine has been running on 50%+ overclock on it for the last 3+ years ... yey. Just keep the temps as low as possible, and all should be fine.

so you're waiting until the desk breaks :D

    You are very fortunate.

I am fortunate in a way too. Since all ThinkPads are black I can rotate them so it appears there are only just a few. That my friends is what I call the ThinkPad secret to a successful marriage.

Same applies to MacBooks, since most of them are aluminum unibody nowadays. I'm trying to acquire a 15" unibody MBP for the fleet currently.

in US? about 250 dollars would be the fair price from a private seller. I would probably look for a standard aspect ratio model with T8xxx or T9xxx CPU with Intel GPU and SXGA+ if you can (XGA model is okay).

I doubt you'd find one like that - that cheap. First, standard screen models are more expensive, as last produced model with that aspect and also smaller compared to the wide screen variant with same diagonal. Second, a Penryn CPU is one level above the Merom CPUs found in most. And third, SXGA+ screen is harder to find.

If I happen to come across a T61 with the above specs and for that price, it's mine at that same moment, as usually the price would be 350+ for one in decent shape, and that is IF you happen to find it for sale.

that expensive in the states? there are heaps of T61 with T7xxx + XGA LCD for $150 (but no battery or charger or hdd) in Australia.

After looking at eBay for few days -

It seems like T8XXX or T9XXX runs for over $300+ on eBay. Otherwise, it seems to be dealt between upper $100 and lower $200 to mid $200 for good condition T61.

T61 should not have problem running Win 8 developer preview right?

Yes the ThinkPad T61 runs fine with the developer preview of Windows 8 as I have tried this myself and it runs quite smooth. The specs I have are:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 @ 2.5GHz
    4GB DDR2 RAM
Fujitsu 80GB 7200RPM Drive (Test Drive)
    Intel X3100 Integrated Graphics
Intel 5100 Wi-Fi Link Wireless Adaptor

However Windows 8 doesn't seem to be able to find the graphics driver for the Intel GPU. What's worse is that Lenovo don't have the Intel X3100 GPU driver on their site for Windows 7 x64 let alone Windows 8. No need to fear though, fortunately I had a copy of the Lenovo Intel X3100 graphics driver for Windows 7 x64 so if you need the Intel GPU driver to test out Windows 8 then here's the link for it.
