    Hi all,

I am interested in purchasing the x220 after it comes out, but I was wondering what some of you were thinking for an optical drive solution for the laptop if you aren't planning on getting the Ultrabase. Or do you think the Ultrabase is best?

    Thanks!

I already have an AC powered external DVD writer that I use. However I do plan to get the Ultrabase Series 3 before too long along with a DVD multiburner and 2nd hard drive adapter.

Don't know about Blu-ray - haven't researched my options there yet. I don't own any Blu-ray disks or a large screen TV yet, so that is not a priority at this time.

I recommend the external USB 2.0 Blu-ray writer, it's cheap and convenient:
Here are 2 portable blu-ray writer:
    ASUS SBW-06C1S-U
    SONY BDX-S500U

You can probably get a DVD drive pretty cheap either for the ultrabase or external. I guess if you want a Blu-ray drive it's probably best to get an external as the Lenovo branded drive is likely to be very expensive if you can find one. I myself picked up a Pansonic UJ-240 for $100 on eBay and then $10 for a case for it. It works fine with my X200t, though I don't use it a ton.

Thanks for the drive recommendations. I will look in to those drives.

Also, any idea how much the external drives affect the power consumption on the laptop when unplugged (working off battery)? I know the x220 hasn't really been available so for now this is more of a general question. Say for a laptop in general you get about 10 hrs on average unplugged. If you watch a 2 hr optical disc movie, how would the battery power be affected, how long would the laptop last thereafter provided you were to use it normally otherwise?
