I just got an x60 and I LOVE it, but it has one annoying feature--the fan (which has a high pitched whine) cycles on and off every few minutes once the notebook has been on for half an hour or so. Happens on both battery and AC power. Have tried NHC, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Speedfan might be worth a look.

    Hi.

Download an awesome utility called Thinkpad Fan Control, here:
    https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=153962

It let you monitor all the sensors on your Thinkpad (even though this program was designed to work on the T4x series, its guaranteed to work on a X60)
The main feature of this program is to control the rpm speed of your fan, and to configure it so that it starts spinning only with a user-specified max temp.
Please read the txt file included in the distribution.

Could you post your laptop temps after the fan kicks in

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give this a try. Currently, my fan goes on when the CPU hits 45 degrees C, cools it down to 43 degrees, and then shuts off.
