Now that I got my t440p, it's almost exact size as my t420. Anyway, is it normal for lid not to stay shut when I hold the laptop from the battery up?

What's the first thing I should do with the laptop? Make a recovery usb? Install 8.1 PRO instead of 8.1?

It came with 8.0 preinstalled. So should I update everything then upgrade to 8.1 then do a recovery usb?

Congrats! How long from ordering to delivery?

You'll probably get better advice in the owner's thread.

Usually the first thing I do is do windows update, then use the Lenovo software to update Lenovo specific drivers. After I'd install windows 8.1, then do a windows update again. After having all the latest drivers, I start loading on my programs and personal content (videos, pictures, etc.)

Then I'd make a recovery USB. Check disk management to see how large your recovery partition is. Hope you enjoy! I got my ThinkPad Yoga a few days ago, and I've been loving it since it came in

The lid is a bit floppy, yes. I miss the security of the latch on my old T420.

I'm not sure if creating a recovery USB after updating to Win8.1 makes any difference. The recovery partition on the factory drive will always return it to Win8, not 8.1.

How are your impressions vs the T420? Heavier/lighter? Did you get the quad core? Does it feel like an upgrade or a sidegrade?

It's definitely lighter (in a comparable configuration) than the T420/T430. I weighed 4.31lbs vs 4.69lb, respectively, and that was before I installed an SSD. I think build quality is just as good, if not better as well. The biggest upgrade is the FHD screen. The biggest downgrade is obviously the clickpad...

If you're cloning the HDD to the SDD, everything should work well, but because it is a new drive, windows won't recognize the recovery partition drive anymore unless you edit the instructions that tells windows where to find the recovery partition. If you need help me with this, let me know

My impressions of the T440p compared to my T420 are mixed. The T440p is lighter and more powerful (I have the 4700MQ) with a better screen. It also has a slightly smaller footprint yet is exactly the same thickness as the T420. In most respects, however, I'd say build quality of the T420 is slightly better. Yes, the T420 has some flexy parts to the case, but overall it's pretty solid and the lid is far stiffer than the T440p. I also miss the sloped front edge of the old T-series machines. The T440p has sharper edges and ill-fitting seams, which just makes it look generic and feel slightly cheap.

Overall I'd say the T440p is an upgrade, but mainly because of the quad core CPU and FHD screen rather than the overall package.

Both are basically the same, same thickness (unfortunately), almost the same footprint, to me they're the same weight. Annoying lid that doesn't close in place. So overall it's an upgrade in terms of specs. Some would argue it's less of build quality I find them the same, unless to press hard on some areas and you'll find the t440p weaker.

If you have no use for the extra features of the pro version (Bitlocker, domain join, etc.) then get Windows 8 normal, it's cheaper.

I got it with a 4gb ram (1600). Would performance be affected if I use another 4gb (1333) from my t420?

installed the 2nd, got clocked down to 1333.

Is it normal for the fan to be loud, or am I in a overly quiet room? With any process above normal (not extensive) the fan kicks in but after <1 or 2 min it stops.

The initial fan speed is louder than the T430's, but not louder than what the T430's used to be before the BIOS update that calmed it down. It's still definitely noticeable in a quiet room, though.

The BIOS update was for the T430... I don't think there is a BIOS update for the T440p that does anything to the fan.

Are you talking about an HDD caddy for the optical drive? Since you can't hot-swap it, the T440p technically doesn't really have an "UltraBay" in the traditional sense. I dunno if they still brand it as that, though.

Lenovo still calls it an "ultrabay", but it's not nearly as easy to swap as in previous Thinkpads and has no battery option so it's hardly "ultra". Now you need to remove the base and undo a screw before sliding it out.

If anyone is thinking of getting the official Lenovo drive caddy for the (ultra)bay in a T440p I would advise against it. Buy a third party one off ebay instead. The Lenovo one does not come with any sort of drive carrier, which is essential for 2.5" drive to fit properly and not flop around. I ended up having to trim down an old set of rubber rails to secure the drive in the caddy. I've heard of others wedging pieces of paper or plastic to secure it. Not exactly an elegant solution.
