    Greetings,

I have a T60 with the 15.0 SXGA+ IPS TFT screen and I think it's going bad. I bought this almost 5 years ago and was hoping it would last a little longer. I'm seeing some distortion that is most noticable in Mozilla. It is a spray/sparkle kind of effect. Mostly I'm seeing yellow spray paint on the white backgrounds. Also blue spray paint on black backgrounds. Sometimes pressing F5 to refresh helps a little but now always. I don't think that this is a driver/software issue because I put in my old hard drive that was replaced about 3 years ago and it has the same problem. I don't have any stuck pixels but it does seem like I have lazy pixils that are not refreshing. Also, games have a hazy yellow/brown snow effect. I think that this has been slowly happening for about a year now and it's getting to the point where I'm ready to buy a new computer if this can't be fixed. Any suggestions? Would disassembling and reassembling be helpful?

    Thanks,

I would say disassembling and re-assembling doesn't cost anything, but is probably not going to fix the problem. I am assuming you've got the LG SXGA+, which is particularly known for yellowing over time. If you're happy with your T60 otherwise, you might just want to replace the screen. A new screen is probably going to cost a lot less than a new notebook and a T60 is still a very competent notebook unless you need top performance. My R60e, which is pretty similar, is still very good. Few notebooks on the market today can match the contrast and viewing angles offered on your T60. The ones that can, outside of the X220, are pretty expensive and I don't know if you want a 12.5" notebook.

Thanks ZaZ. Your right, it's the LG. I'll probably put an external monitor on it till it dies. It's still a good computer but being over 5 years old I don't want to put any more money into it. I was hoping it would last longer. I've got a T22 and an R60 that still work perfectly although they are very out dated. I did some price comparisons of Lenovo T420 and a Dell Latitude using similar parts and the Lenovo came out about $300 cheaper. I'm thinking of getting one of those solid state drives. I heard someone on Science Friday on NPR talking about how much faster it was.

    Peace

I would assume you can get another LG screen for a $100 or so. If you want to do the UXGA, then it'd probably be in the $150-200 range. Both are straight swaps on the T60 and shouldn't take more than an hour or so to do. It may be worth it if you plan use for a couple more years. I consider my R60e to be far better than any piece o' crap notebook I could get at Best Buy or the like.

I unchecked "write combing" under the Troubleshoot tab for the adapter settings and the problem is a lot less noticable. Mozilla looks good but games still show the problem. I can live with this. :)
