Hello,
I have 2 thinkpads that I need to fly with from US to Israel through London. did anyone have any experience flying with 2 laptops? Any problems in airports? Things I should consider? Warnings?
I appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Omer

I'm not sure, but check if there are restrictions about batteries onboard or in luggage.
-
The batteries are going to have to be carry on. Consider that you are allowed one carry-on, and one personal item. 1 laptop is going to count as your personal item (though, with one large laptop case you could have both laptops be your carry on and still have allowance for the 1 personal item).
-
in my country, it's permitted to carry 2 laptops with you. 3rd and you'll be taxed. Don't know about Israel. but I think that the law will be similar.

I have never tried flying with two laptops, but my general recommendation would be to flap very hard.

That is due to Vietnam's custom rule to prevent people bringing in grey market products, and resell them without paying the necessary custom duties and VAT.
While, Israel may have different set of rules, it is best that the OP call the travel agent about this issue, but usually he should have no issues. But he will have to declare at the custom of Israel, if the Machine has wifi configured for US use, with the 5 ghz frequency band, which is one reason why Israel prevents people importing the Ipad.
As Israel have many military communication equipment operating on the 5 ghz bandwidth. -
I've flown with two thinkpads before. Didn't raise an eyebrow with the TSA.
Of course, when flying to Israel you should have a good explanation for why you need two laptops. In fact, you should have a good explanation for everything or you can wave your plane good-bye
And the El-Al security has a great sense of humor!

I thinks the rule is applied to many countries, not only VN.
And Israel had allowed Ipad. Read some news said that Ipad was banned not because of technical issues, but political issues.
Why Israel banned the iPad | TG Daily -
Yes it does for countries with extremely high custom duties and where grey market profiteering is rampant, which occurs in most of the developing Asian countries. But in some countries it is loosely enforced.
Another reason why Cronyism in Politics really stifle personal freedom, people mistrust politicians and their relatives/friends for good reasons. -
You mean places where the anti-competitive market segmentation imposed by some companies worked?
-
Did i say something to that effect? I don't think i implied that in my previous post. I am just talking about the market reality in some Asian countries.
-
I have travelled with 2 laptops and never had a problem.

Every month, I travel long haul to various continents - about 20-25 countries in a year. For the past year I have been bringing 2 ThinkPads and 2 extra batteries in my carry on trolley. Not once has there been an issue at security control.

Never been a problem for domestic travel. As lead org said, import rules could get you at the other side in some countries - I had to do a declaration of personal use or something like that in India and they were supposed to check me on the way out, which they never did.
