    Hi,

I just got a new t60 and am about to format it (everything, including that "hidden" partition)

so i was wondering, how would i be able to get all the drivers, finger print software, thinkvantage back afterwards?

    Thanks.

If you haven't formatted yet, create the Recovery Discs first. You should be able to access it from Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Rescue & Recovery Media (or something like that). You'll need to insert a blank CD (for the first startup disc) and a single DVDR or up to 6 CDRs for the Recovery discs. Once you have this, you should be able to get your system back to its factory install.

If you want to do a fresh install, follow the instructions on the following page:

    cheers!

For the love of god, burn off the recovery discs. If you don't, you'll have to pay $45 for the recovery discs. Burn off the IBM Tools, Drivers, Apps, etc. folders as well or move them over on the network. That is where all of software like the fingerprint software, battery maximiser, ultranav, etc. is located.

    alright.

    Let me just clarify:

you can't download the thinkvantage / finger print reader from anywhere right? You can only get them by burning them from the thinkvantage center, or getting a cd from lenovo?

i don't really mind NOT being able to go back to the factory default, i'll be making backup using acronis, but i just want to double check on the software.

No you can get ThinkPad software and drivers from Lenovo site, but you can't Windows or any of the the other proprietary software on their, which makes burning off the recovery discs a must. Plus you may want to sell this someday and you'll want to put it back to its original state.
