Hey guys, so my t61p just tanked.

So, i closed the top of my laptop at work to send it to sleep, and then when i got home i opened it up to used it again. But, the screen stayed black. and nothing happened - so I held the power button down to shut off the comp.

Upon turning on the comp, the screen remains black, two loud beeps are heard, and then the screen stays black and as far as I can tell, nothing else is happening. So i just turn off the comp by holdign the power button down, and one loud beep is heard and the comp shuts off. The same thing happens every time I try.

Now, i've put the laptop to sleep b4 by just closing the top, and I've never had this happen. The only thing that i can think of that was different was that itunes was playing a song when i closed the lid. Normally I pause itunes, but i was in a hurry.

The problem is, I can't even get into my BIOS since the screen doesnt come up, and I dont remember what buttons to press.

    any help/suggestions? Thanks

btw, I'm running windows 7 64-bit ultimate edition. didnt update any drivers that windows 7 didnt automatically install for me.

your GPU probably have packed in. Time to call for your free warranty service, it ends in 30th July.

thx guys, this was extremely helpful.

yea called lenovo and they said they'd fix it! yay.

and yea, it was one long, 2 short beeps, not just 2.

    problem resolved!

also - am I allowed to remove my hard drive before shipping it? because i have data that I want to back up. or do they need one in the computer to make the repairs?

Yes, you can take out the hdd and put it back in after it returns. Your laptop will work again as usual.

At least that was the case with me, you could call and ask them again...

you don't have to ship the laptop with the hdd installed, you can take the hdd out and keep it with you. The depot don't use your hdd anyway, since they need to put in their diagnostic hdd to check for system faults, etc.

    Hi,
I'm sort of in the same boat as you guys with the exception that my T61p GPU has NOT failed yet.
I'm worried that it is 2 years 3 months old -- the time it seems alot are failing with the FX 570.
Now I read that that internal document expires on July 30 (tomorrow!).

Would it be wise for me to call service tomorrow to complain? If I knew it would be replaced with a non-defective unit I would pressure them to swap it even though it hasn't failed yet since it could happen ANY day now. I only had the standard 1yr warranty.

I don't see why there is an expiration so soon for this free warranty service to cover a KNOWN defect.
