Hi, I am trying to save as much budget on my notebook as possible.
But I heard that i need to make recovery disks with the writer.
Or else, i heard, I'll just have to write them on like 9 cd's instead of couple of dvd cds.

I don't ever burn dvd's and I think it's a waste to take another 50 dollars to something I will use for just once(burning those recovery disks)

so can you please confirm that I can make recovery disks with just cd writables?
Is there any inconvenience and other reasons to buy the dvd writables?

    Thanks!

If you back up large amounts of data, DVDs are nice since they hold about seven CDs worth of stuff. Yes you can make recovery CDs.

I rarely need to burn anything on dvd.

If you need to back up files, I would get a usb thumbdrive. I'm going to get a 2gb one so I can store my Word documents for school and whatnot.

As for the recovery discs, I never made them and I never learned why we need to make them. I don't forsee my hdd crashing any time soon and I am careful as to what files I download on the internet. I am virus free, trojan free, spyware free 99% of the time.
In the event that there is something very wrong with Windows, I backup important files and then reformat to factory state again.

If you have a desktop IDE DVD burner handy, just buy a USB external case, and use that to burn the discs. I spent like 25 bucks on one from newegg.com, and saved a ton on a topseller T60 model that only had a cd burner.
