Hi,
I apologise if these questions have been asked before but I gave up after trawling through the forum for the past 2 hours and couldn't find anything on the Y410a (only the Y410).
I've decided to get a Lenovo, but I really like the glossy screens that are available now with many brands but Lenovo doesn't seem to offer many of its models with them. The Lenovo 3000 Y410a looks like it fits my requirements at a reasonable price, and it offers a glossy screen. But many posts in the forum seem to think the Thinkpad T series offers far better performance.
My questions are:
1. Is there a model from the Thinkpad T series that offers a glossy screen?
2. I've read some reviews which complained about the Y410 having a noisy HD and DVD drive, and poor sound quality. can anyone comment on this?
3. I think there is also a R series model that offers a glossy screen but looks quite expensive and many users seem to prefer the T series. any comments?
4. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get a glossy screen? I will mainly use the notebook for work and surfing the net....not big on gaming.
The Y410a specs are (pls let me know ur comments):
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz)
- Vista Home Premium
- Intel 965PM
- 14.1 WXGA Ultra Clear
- nVidia GeForce 8400M GS
- 160G SATA
- 2 GB DDRII 667MHz
- Multi-Burner DVDRW
- Intel Wireless 4965 802.11n
- Dolby Home Theatre, Stereo 1.5W + 2 Subwoofers
- Media Shuttle Centre
- 6-cell batt up to 3.7 hours
I'm kinda a noob at this so again I apologise if I've asked irrelevant qns or provided insufficient info. thanks!

1) no
2) I'm unsure - but my experience with laptop speakers is that I should always have a pair of headphones anyhow. My T61p speakers are fine for every day sound and whatnot - if I am watching a dvd, playing a game or listening to music though - I definately go external speaker or headphone route.
3) I havent ever seen a glossy screen Thinkpad except for perhaps the tablets...
4) Glossy screens are very hard to see if there is any light being shown (sp?) on it - table light or sunlight. The gloss glare is the one thing I really disliked about my macbook pro. Fingerprints show very easily as well. If you arent doing any web design, photo manipulation or other picture intensive stuff, glossy is probably fine though. -
Where are you buying this from?
I don't see one with C2D T7250.
The ThinkPad R series offer glossy. I'm trying to give you a similar system but a ThinkPad instead. -
thanks for the replies!
I'm buying this from hong kong. don't think the same model is available in the US. -
there's a company called screen tek or something like it that does it for $180. They repoloraize your lcd and make it glossy
-
that's exactly what I decided to do eventually.
I'm now the proud owner of a Thinkpad T61 with a screen tek glossy screen -
