I have t60 with ati x1400. The gpu has always 70 degrees or more even when doing nothing. Is that normal?

Have you been keeping your fan clean? The cooling guide has some great tips for keeping your notebook running cool as well as cleaning the fan.

    70 is not alarmingly hot.

My laptop is almost brand new. I don't think my cooling components need maintenance now. Thanks for the tips anyway.

i have the same laptop (t60/x1400) with the same problem, its like 2 days old but when looking in NHC acpi, it displays the temp as 70C, and thats in windows.

playing a movie usually makes the machine beep until i figured out to turn off NHC's GPU sensor.

My fan is running at 3500 rpm when bios-controlled. When I manually set 3000 rpm with tpfancontrol the temp in windows is 73 degrees and when intensively gaming it can get even to 87 degrees.

This isn't anything to worry about - my GPU runs about 75 degrees when doing nothing but web surfing...and I'm on Linux!
