Yea, all those who thought they were clairvoyant in predicting that there would be a wsxga+ resolution on the t61 are clearly incorrect. there's only wxga+, which has a reslution even less than the current thinkpad 14.1 inches! So sad, huh? you'll get more space with a 4:3 ratio than with a widescreen notebook!

Umm... I think you have to remember though that they have not shown the 15.4" widescreens yet, which I am pretty sure will be in a 1680x1050 WSXGA+ resolution option.

    OMG...

Why are all you guys going after resolution, resolution, and more resolution???

How many of you guys can honestly say you can comfortably read text at native resolution on a 14inch WUXGA screen? In all honesty, you'd have to be wearing a pair of surgical microscopes in front of your glasses to be able to read anything on that screen.

I can read 10 point font on a 15.4" WSXGA+ without any problem. My friend has a 15.4" HP that has WUXGA 1920x1200 and while it is kinda small, he can read it just fine too.

I'm willing to bet 90% of the people saying "that resolution is way to high for a 15.4" have never seen a 15.4" wuxga screen in person!

...and yes I am typing this from my Z61p, 1920x1200 15.4", 120DPI setting and letters are so smooth my 1600x1200 21.3" desktop panel looks like an atari video game...

I've seen one. It was too small for me, but some do like them. Variety is a good thing.

Personally I believe the best resolution for 14.1" laptops is WXGA+, 1440x900. Any higher resolution and your eyes will really strain to see any of the text.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch though, mliu. Lenovo is bound to offer WXSGA+ 1680x1050 on the 15.4" version of the T61.

It's funny, what I'm really hoping for is WXGA+ (1440x900) on the 15.4" T61. Must be hard to be a notebook maker, trying to please everyone!

Here is a screenshot, WUXGA, 15.4" and running Windows XP x64, display settings at 120DPI. Show it fullscreen and you get an idea of how large the fonts are, show it 1:1 (pixel wise) and you see how much more detailed the fonts are.

Yeah, offcourse there will be a WSXGA+ 15.4", but some of us (including me) were hoping for a WSXGA+ 14.1"

WUXGA on a 14.1" might be a lit too small, furrycute

With Vista's new dynamic DPI upsizing, small text due to large resolution shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Exactly. One should choose the highest resolution possible if want to use Vista. Scaling fonts and icons is much improved in Vista it wont jeopardize the desktop look as in XP when you change the DPI setting to higher number.

High resolution will make the desktop less grainy and make everything looks crisper. It is nice addition to Aero.

so does this mean that there will never be a wsxga+ for the 14" t61? or is it possible that it will be an option later, like when the 15.4" models are released?

At IBM i've been lucky to see everything, side by side in identical conditions.
WUXGA and UXGA are both too small for me.

Especially with resolutions as high as UXGA, the only way to get it is coupled with the IPS FlexView high-quality screen. IPS and Flexview compared to default is like an HD Plasma TV compared to the old regular rear-end low-def projection TV's... the differences in quality, depth, colour, and viewing angles are incredible.

It is a shame Lenovo wimped out on the WSXGA+ resolution screen. I would have paid more for that feature. In my opinion it is the perfect size for a 14.1" laptop. I saw the ASUS G1 and I think WSXGA+ resolution is not enough for a 15.4". But, it would be great on a 14.1". I spend most of my time on Word and Excel so I prefer larger resolutions.

It depends on the market. The market is not there for WXSGA+.

IBM is getting over one-hundred thousand high-end 14.1" SXGA+ standard aspect models. That kinda demand gets you what you want.

Perhaps they will make wsxga+ on 15,4 inch model?

No thanks. Dell and HP already make WUXGA on 15.4" business laptops. I think WSXGA+ makes text in Word and Thunderbird too big.

15.4" is not a business laptop... Fortune 500 companies dont distribute 15.4" laptops to their managers. And any executive who is given a Dell or HP instead of a thinkpad, is being indirectly told he's expendable, lol

If I was not restricted to a 14.1" laptop, I would buy the Dell Latitude D830 over the Lenovo Thinkpad T61 any day of the week. But, the Dell Latitude D630 lacks too many features.

Yeah from what I've seen, i wouldn't want a T61 either (or any other laptop sporting vista with santa rosa). Speaking of features lacking on the Dell, quality comes to mind. Just look at the consumer surveys and power reports. Ugh!!
