ok so the x61 doesnt have an optical drive. if i replace my hd, how will reinstalling everything work? are the image files located on the default hd or is it like a firmware somewhere? how would i be able to reload everything on the new hd?

btw, how do i check the rpm of my default hard drive? should i get 5400pm or 7200rpm hd for my upgrade? i hear that 5400 is better because its better for my batt life and less heat

You'll want to invest in an external DVD drive.

youll need an external dvd drive. 5400 is fine for anyone unless youre looking for performance. It does spin slower, which means the battery is taxed less, but if youre doing HD intensive work on the battery mode, it wont matter what speed you use really.

Just get a usb hdd case (they only cost a few bucks), put the new hdd in it and plug it in. Now you can put the image on the external drive, then switch the drives and your done and have an external harddrive made out of your old harddrive.

You can upgrade it or you can by a external HD
