yes you can swap to a SSD later on aslong as it uses the same SATA interface. I recommend getting a HDD because SSD's are not worth the money yet... maybe in the near future...

    Seconded.

All Thinkpads are capable of using SSDs. To the computer a HDD and a SSD looks exactly the same.

I disagree...you can get a 120Gb ssd now from newegg for 6-700 bucks which is a great price drop. You will see a large difference in typical operations to include startup and whatnot through the large decrease in access times.

$639 for 120GB? I agree with flipfire. Just not worth it, yet.

just wondering Les, why such an SSD pusher? Technology is half of my job, I consider myself and early adopter and do waste a lot of money but I just cannot justify the prices. not yet at least. I mowed lawns for months to buy my first caddy load cdrom 2X so I could play 7th guest. 600-700 for 128GB is super ludicrous, the cost/performance ratio is too low. just my .02

Hmm that's like my friend considering SDHC cards (16GB) to install his operating system on it... I'm wondering if the performance gains / battery life increase is worth actually spending that much, and if the gains are that significant.

I'd say wait it out a little bit. What's the rush? You can throw it in there later on when the price drops, and the technology will likely improve (as much as ssd tech can lol).

    /sidetrack on

I have very fond memories of 7th Guest. It was my first "multimedia" title as well. I got a Creative Soundblaster 16 soundcard and CD ROM kit for a bit over $400 for Christmas that year.

    /sidetrack off

Yes better to wait it out for the larger SSDs. Although 32/64 GB SSD is good enough for storage for me anyway atm. You can always get an external hard drive in the meantime for storage.
