So Iaccidentally spilled some hot tea on the bottom left of my T61p. It's not a big spill, but a rather hot one. I've opened up the touchpad cover thing and put a fan to blow it. But when I plug in the ac cord after 30minutes of blowing, the led doesn't light. So what shoud I do now?

Is it covered by the normal 3 year warranty?

Did you turn of the computer immediately? Let it dry for a while, it should work.

30 minutes of drying is not enough leave it to dry for like 48 hours, then try turning it on. The majority of the tea should spill through the drain hole.

Remove the palmrest and leave the battery out and the AC unplugged for a day. Water is probably trapped and shorting something.

Also only accidental warranty will cover water damage.

Put it in an empty box. Seal the box. Put the box in the sun like in front of a window, or in a warm area. The paper of the box will absorb the moisture. I've done this before, I got water on the screen of my VAIo S360. I was shocked how good it work. You couldn't ever tell. Now if there was sugar or another sweetener in the Tea, well I don't know about that.

Or just tea particles. Though I guess you could just take apart everything and dust it out.

Not to be negative. But if the machine still has some liquid in it and it was turned on and something shorted, isn't that it? Meaning permanent damage?

Not necessarily but I would agree that it is definitely bad and lowers the chances of it being in working condition later on :\.

Well, I left it drying for about 12 hours. And it's ok again. No need to repair. It got me scared for a bit.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'll take in mind of all the drying tips that you all have. :)

You should have started a different thread for this but here you go -> Warranty Lookup

Have your model and serial number handy.

I actually think taking it part, removing the keyboard, harddrive etc, is better so it drys out quicker. like this picture. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/1IQ05U3gfOBMTLaMu9XzFw?authkey=7OphGq3CAzY&feat=directlink

If let to dry slowly the water might rust or corrode parts. I waited 1 day before opening and the screws had some rust on them already.

update: So water spilled and laptop screen became very dim as described here. link
I sent in for warranty service, they said foreign substance spill (user fault) and will cost $700+ for lcd replacement. I told them to send back planning to replace the inverter myself. To my surprise when I got it back the screen lit up but there were these bright white spots, about .5-1 cm across splattered across the screen. I don't know if they replaced my more defective screen with a less defective screen or was it a side effect of the previous problem.

Put it in a medium size cardboard box and set the box in the sun or near a warm source. The cardboard will absorb all the moisture as it warms. I've done this before, it works amazingly well. Sugar or honey in the Tea is another matter.
