I don't believe that you can. The integrated Intel graphics allocates RAM automatically.

Perhaps your trying to run 3 virtual machines on an integrated graphics chipset with only 2gb of memory is the problem? Have you considered running fewer virtual machines or buying more RAM?

You can get a ATI card if you buy a new laptop. There is no laptop with integrated graphics that you can upgrade the GPU on. It's just one of the limitations with your machine.

Remember that the T400's can be ordered with the hybrid graphics (ATI and Integrated), or just the integrated. Since it's so easy to switch between the ATI and integrated graphics on the T400, I suspect previous posters thought you were asking about a hardware upgrade -- otherwise you'd have just tried it yourself to see.

Back to your original question: , I've never seen a way to adjust the memory allocation from the video drivers on the T400. It is what it is.

Not worth worrying about anyway since $32 will put a 2Gb DDR3 memory module in your hands within a few days.

Seconded. Stop going “nuts.” RAM is cheap—just buy another 2GB stick and be done with it.

Are you sure its actually taking away 1GB of RAM. Where did you see this reading? By default it shouldnt be using any more than 128MB. Remember there is a difference between how much it is capable of using and how much it is actually using. My T400(switchable GPU) is currently running on the X4500 and is using less than 70MB according to the task manager which is about right for an IGP.

You are running VMWare with 3 simultaneous virtual machines on only 2GB of RAM?? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS??

You should go to at least 4GB. 6 or 8GB might even be a good option if you can justify the price of 4GB DDR3 DIMMs.

Also, I find it highly unlikely that the x4500MHD is actually using 1GB of shared RAM. In my experience (x200T) it is almost always 128MB or less. Please post a screenshot of this reading. It may also be wise to re-install your graphics drivers.

Unlike some integrated graphics solutions from ATI or Nvidia, Intel graphics chipsets always automatically adjust its own memory usage, so there's no way to change it.

rocky did not specify what OS he was using, but it brings up another question - can the X4500 use the extra 1 GB of ram that is not available to a 32 bit OS, if you add the 2 GB and bring it up to 4 GB? Otherwise, he might as well add 1 GB if he has a 32 bit OS...

So, can anyone show me how can i know my X4500 the actually using of this sharing.

(Normally when My T400 start up and run taskmanager, the information of Ram is being use about 450mb..i have not started any application)
