    Hi
I was wondering is there any way to do a clean install of Vista without using cd-drive at all? (for x61, I really don't want to spend more money for an external cd drive)
I've been searching the forums and it is possible to boot from USB drive but some of the guides say that I need to make recovery disk or something before I actually start the process. But then to make the recovery disk, I would need a cd-drive..maybe there is no way

does anyone have a link? maybe I missed a thread or some sort..

You saw this? I would highly recommend you make the recovery discs. You just never know when something going to go wrong. I would also recommend dumping off a copy of the SWTools folder from your C:\ drive. It contains all the software including the drivers and applications installed on your ThinkPad.

You can't borrow one for a few hours from someone? If you have a desktop with a drive in it you can buy an external case for it on the internet very cheaply.
