Hi guys (and girls..), my thinkpad wouldn't activate the power scheme from the thinkpad power manager (TPM) software, the only way to activate the power scheme is from Control Panel -> Power Options.
I've tried reinstalling the TPM to no avail, does anyone has had this problem?

What happens when you try and apply a power scheme? What indicates you that a power scheme is not being used?

I can see it from TPM menu, the 'circle' next to the scheme name wont change position, also the LCD brightness doesn't change too :(.

Have you installed any foreign drivers?

Is this how it was out-of-the-box?

I hope its not hardware related.

this happened to me... i didn't find the source of the problem but I did a system restore to a date prior to the start of the problem to solve the problem. i guess it's not the most ideal solution though

to be more specific, in my case, all the schemes didn't work. even if i selected a scheme, it would revert back to the default scheme when the problem first started. also i attempted to create a new scheme and it wouldn't save. the system restore fixed it, then i did a system update and got the new verison of TPM.

kinda different from mine, I'm not having problem when creating new scheme.. it was all started when all but one power scheme is missing (Video playback), so I went to lenovo support page and notice there was this link http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=ENGY-STAR40

I made a mistake at first by applying `vista_pwrpolv.zip` instead of `xp_pwrpol.zip`.

after following all the described steps at the page, the`energy star` scheme showed up, and from there on the problem occurs :(

if only I didn't turn my system restore off.. :(

the power schemes in control panel are almost the same, there are an additional 3 or 4 schemes. for example home/office, portable, minimal power management, etc. have you tried uninstalling the software completely prior to reinstalling with xp drivers. Installing on top of the existing software, may still cause problems, so make sure you uninstall completely.

try searching for power management options in the BIOS.
