I am looking to buy a thinkpad soon and can't decided between these and was hoping you guys help me decide.

since most of the laptops offer enough power for what I am going to be using it for these are the main factors I am looking for are:

    1. weight
    2. resolution
    3. size/thickness

So now, I LOVE the X60 but the one thing that KILLS me is the resolution. If there was a widescreen version of this little beast, I would be first in line. So that is the reason I am also looking at the T60. I heard that it's the same thickness as the X60 but a little longer, wider, and heavier due to the screen size. I also like the resolution the T60 offers.

    So I'll recap:

    T60
    LIKE the widescreen
    LIKE the resolution
    DON'T LIKE the size
    DON'T LIKE the weight

    X60
    LIKE the weight
    LIKE the size
    DON'T LIKE the resolution
DON'T LIKE the screen (not widescreen)

Can someone also comment on the actual weight of the X60. The site says starting at 2.7 while the T60 says starting ar 4.5

    There will be/is a tablet x60 with available sxga+ resolution...not sure if that's what you're looking for.

The x60 will give you more portability, longer battery life. It does not have a built in optical drive, though.

    T60
    -more powerful
    -heavier
    -Built in optical
    -high resolution
    -dedicated graphics
    -less time unplugged

If you can use an external monitor while at the desk, you may find the x60 the better choice.

Would a 14.1 wxga Z-series fit the bill?

For what it's worth, I love my t60 and don't find it too heavy/bulky to carry & I bring it to most of my college classes.

The WS T60 is only available in 15.4", which is probably going to weigh at least 5.5 lbs, if not more. The 14" standard ratio T60 is a dream, I love mine. I thought I wouldn't like the extra weight, I had an X21 before it, but sadly the screen died.

If you prefer a thin and light widescreen notebook, have you considered the Dell Latitude D420?

Sounds like you are waiting for what I'm waiting for...

Lenovo X60 (non tablet) with higher resolution or wide screen (something like 1280x800) would rock my world.

Alternatives I'm considering now are Dell D420 and Sony SZ.

The sony and dell have horrible service records. The sony bends like a tin can.
The X60 come with 3 years warrnanty and can be extended to 5 years for $100.

Sony and dell won't warrant their product for 5 yrs for any price, because they know theirs have a life expectancy of only 12-18 months . LOL

The slow hard drive, which cannot be upgraded, on the Dell is a performance killer. You might want to check out the Gateway E100.

Well, i'd expect a widscreen X to not be released. Nothing smaller than a 15.4" for that matter (well I guess on the consumer 'Z' line). Stick to the business basics, keep it classic, standard ratio.

Higher resolution on the X60...well...I wouldn't be apposed to that.

go with the T60 14in, though not a widescreen. that would make things alot bigger compared to what x60 offers.

by the way, t60's are really heavier than x60. but t60's are not heavy.

    ain't sxga in 12in small?

The X60 (non-tablet) comes with XGA, fairly big text to most people's standards.

But with the 12" form factor of the X-series, the text size in XGA on the X-series is equivalent to the text size in SXGA+ on the 15" T-series. And actually smaller than SXGA on the T.

1024x768 is quickly becoming the minimum resolution for comfortable browsing, buying an expensive machine that is limited to this as its max resolution is something I would consider carefully.

Right. But because of the physical size of the screen, less icons and content fit with that (same as T60) text size. So I suppose one needs an even higher resolution to fit the same amount of physical content on the screen.

Anything larger than a 14" is too big in my opinion for carrying around on a daily basis. I "sort of" regret not going the X60 route, but the T60 I have now will last the good 3 years its warrantied for, and meanwhile I can get a ultraportable if I desire :)
