i have a t400 on the way with 2GBPC3-8500 1067MHZ1DIMM
i want to add another stick (preferably another 2gb?)..where do you recommend I buy from? i am looking for something that is not expensive but has a good reputation
i plan to run a 64-bit OS
-
-
Just go to newegg and look for a 2gig stick that is DDR3 and the same speed and latency.
-
I was in the same boat as you. I bought mine second hand for crazy cheap off craigslist. I was looking at NCIX, which has great prices, and my local campus computer store. You should be able to get 2GB for around $40 on NCIX.
-
Here is the cheapest and best compatible 2GB RAM SODIMM available, from Crucial, a very reputable memory maker.
-
Newegg has worked well for me, several times.
-
with my specs (see post #1) whats the max I can get for another memory? 2gb, 4gb..? If i got a 4gb wouldI notice much of a difference
-
First off, it depends on how much RAM your T400 can support. PC3-8500 comes in up to 4GB in capacity, so you could easily obtain 8GB RAM on your T400.
-
4gigs you need 64bit to address all that. It be about 3gigs on a 32bit OS (assuming these are all windows). Also depends how demanding you are with your computer as far as multitasking and leaving it on with intensive programs running.

Ok, I am running a 64-bit windows 7. I do plan to run a lot of programs at once, will i notice a big difference if I added a 2gb vs a 4gb stick??
any good links to a good 4gb stick (that is compatible to my computer, see post#1) and comes at a good price? -
First off, the memory reference by MidnightSun is excellent and works great in my T500. Secondly if you are running the 64 bit os most certainly get 4gb because 2 runs alot slower than 4 in my experience.
-
ok so you do see a noticeable difference. so adding a 4gb to my already installed 2gb, would make it a 6gb. i guess I will go with 4gb then if the difference is speed is that much..
any links to a good 4gb stick? -
A 4GB stick is very expensive! I think he meant 4GB total (i.e. 2GB + 2GB sticks). Just get that crucial stick from Newegg. Fairly cheap (for DDR3).
-
o rreally, i had a feeling it would be expensive..just curious, how much would it run me?
-
489.99 if you were to buy it from crucial directly
-
2x2gig kit from newegg by crucial should be fine. If you require anymore memory...just use a desktop at that point because it certainly isn't worth the price.
-
man thats crazy...didnt think it would be that much, 2gb stick here i come -
how hard is it to install a stick on a t400 (new one just purchased)?
Any instructions? -
sorry to bring this up again, but can someone lead me to a link with the kind of ram I need for my laptop ....i need to find a good deal and not sure what a good deal is for ram
looking to add another 2gb ram for 2GBPC3-8500 1067MHZ1DIMM -
i just ordered this one for my t400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148192 -
yea this is the best one, mainly because its the cheapest and made by a good company.
ill be ordering this soon as well. -
I got that for $19.99 a week and a half ago from Newegg. There was a promotional -$5 off coupon and it was $24.99 with free shipping. Looks like they bumped up the price due to demand.
-
is that the cheapest and best deal?
im not sure if it would work for my t400, since my stats may be different: 2GBPC3-8500 1067MHZ1DIMM
? -
it works with the t400, same spec.
-
finally lookin to buy now, but the price of this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148192 has gone up now! any cheaper ones??
-
Wow! I bought these when they were $25.99 each!
-
tell me about it! i was lookin to buy n was like sheeeeeeessh! any lower prices? $25.99 deal sounds rlly good right now
-
25 USD is a really good price considering everything.
-
Yeah... didn't realize HOW GOOD of a price back in August and also didn't realize that I would be buying another computer (X200) that would require an upgrade!
-
The price of the DDR3 seems to be so much higher than the DDR2 for some reason.
-
My theory is that a lot of manufacturers are switching over to DDR3, leading to increased demand and hence driving up the price.
-
The DDR3 ram price never went down like the DDR2 in the same sort of time period. Maybe it is just the US dollar weakening as compared to the time period when the DDR2 production was at its peak.
-
Could be wrong here but it seems like ram prices always jump right before the Christmas season.
-
DDR3 price never dropped like the way DDR2 did...
-
True I'm just making a generalization. Just seems that the manufactures see a chance to make an extra buck or two around this time of the year.
-
hopefully it is another one of their price setting deals they are conning the consumers with, like the last time they did and got a huge fine from..
-
anyone got links to some sales for my type of memory? $51 seems a lot for 2gb stick.
-
Unfortunately that's about the best you can do right now - DDR3 for laptops is expensive right now. I would just wait and check back (Newegg, ZZF, and similar) often.
-
I am a little hesistant in mentionjng this but have you tried ebay? I know some people don't really like dealing with that site but you can find deals, albit it takes a little searching. Or pricegrabber? You have the part number already and a price (s) to work with. Just a thought.
-
In general, memory prices are expected to rise this year to a better supply versus demand situation and more restrained CAPEX and also Samsung not flooding the market. DDR 2 is pretty much commodity now. Bra, you should catch a sale now as prices will go up especially in the back half of 2010.
help me find gb of ram
